Teacher Pat Jerkovich says she's amazed at how simple the patterns are. Even slower children picked it up and were pleased with learning the lessons.

"They only need to use their fingers instead of going and getting other resources. It's so easy to learn and remember."
"At one Dunedin school I taught 25 12-year-olds their 17 times tables in just 2 minutes. I dared them to do it. I'm sure its a world record," she says.
One book highlights the concept of having a memory like elephants.

"To remember things as elephants do, just wiggle your thumbs and your fingers too," goes one of her phrases.
